BritCom: The Louisiana School British Comedy Club

CONSTITUTION

Article I: Name

The name of the organization shall be the British Comedy Society of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, or the Louisiana School British Comedy Club (BritCom).

Article II: Objective

The prime directive of the BritCom shall be the promotion of British humor, focusing on the television series, movies and books of England. The main activity of BritCom will be the showing of comedy shows.

Article III: Membership

Membership in BritCom is open to all Louisiana School students. No student shall be denied membership in BritCom due to race, ethnic background, age, sex, nationality, religious or sexual orientation, or physical or mental capabilities. Membership may be denied to, or revoked from, any member who is not courteous to fellow members.

Article IV: Offices and Duties of officers

A. Sponsor - As required by the school, the club shall have a sponsor, who must be a faculty member, administrator, or staff member of the Louisiana School.
B. Officers - BritCom officers shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and two librarians. All officers shall be paid members of the club.
1. The President Shall:
     a) Oversee and coordinate all activities of the club with the other officers.
     b) Represent BritCom to the ICC and other campus governing bodies, as well as sister BritCom societies.
     c) Ensure that meetings/showings are provided for, properly scheduled, and planned for.
     d) Secure legal permission for club activities as necessary, especially copyright permission.
2. The Vice-President Shall:
     a) Assist the president in all of his or her duties.
     b) Delegate responsibility to ensure that club business is executed.
     c) Preside over meetings the president is unable to attend
3. The Secretary Shall:
     a) Maintain all related documents and materials.
     b) Maintain a roster of membership.
     c) Maintain a record of meetings/showings and any minutes.
     d) Maintain all correspondence to and from BritCom.
     e) Provide for advertising of meetings/showings and any other events.
4. The Treasurer Shall:
     a) Keep records of all financial accounts and transactions.
     b) Collect dues and money at club events.
     c) Maintain the club's account and report on the club's account status as necessary.
     d) Plan all financial events (i.e. fundraisers and moneymaking components of events.)
5. The Librarians Shall:
     a) Obtain and distribute information from sister clubs and societies around the world.
     b) Manage the club library and keep a current inventory.
     c) There shall be two librarians: one male from Prudhomme Hall, and one female from Caddo Hall.

Article V: Dues

Dues fund the club, money raised at club functions, and fundraisers. The club's funds are stored in the LSMSA Parents' Association account.

Article VI: Attendance

Attendance is non-mandatory for all events. If a member is noticed to be excessively absent from meetings, the club may revoke his or her membership. Attendance is necessary to vote on events, showings, and officer elections.

Article VII: Amendments
Amendments to the constitution may be passed upon the approval of two-thirds of the members present and the approval of the sponsor. An amendment must be presented to the club one meeting before voting.
